China Rocked!

Today, on 12 may, 2008 a disaster struck China. One of the deadliest Earthquake ever recorded in history took away lives of 15,000 people. Moreover, around 100,000 people are feared to be trapped under the debris of the collapsed building. Those who escaped are facing a fate even worser than death. No shelter, no food and separated family members. Most of the deaths took place in the Sichuan, the administrative capital of the Beichuan province. China has welcomed international Aid unlike its neighbor Myanmar. About 80% of the buildings have been reported to have collapsed. till last reports, in the city of Dujiangyan, 900 students were buried. Dujiangyan is also a part of Beichuan. The disaster has caused a terrible setback to the nations preparations for the Olympics. The Torch relay was also cut short, and a minute of silence was observed before the run. The earthquake recorded 7.8 on the Richter scale. It struck at 2.28p.m.The jolt was felt even in Thailand and Vietnam. Most of the major highways have been damaged and because of this 11 counties are no more reachable. A similar earthquake occurred in 1976 which claimed 300,000 victims.
